Into the Future with the Heart and Soul of a
Small Town
Renaissance Ashland City is a 501 (c) (3) public charity comprised of citizens, business owners, and elected officials who worked together with planning experts to create a long term plan to lead Ashland City "Into the future with Ashland City with clear vision, a clear plan, and the heart and soul of a small town." Citizens of our fair city cherish the rich heritage, recognize the progress that made our city what it is today, and look forward to what the future holds.
The history of Ashland City began and is connected with the organization of the county. It was surveyed and platted in 1856 under the direction of the commissioners appointed by the first county court for that purpose. The town is located on the north side of the Cumberland River, on a regularly inclined plane from the base of the high hills and the river. Ashland City is the county seat and was originally established with 50 acres. The first major industry in the Ashland City area was the forge operated by Montgomery Bell at Narrows of the Harpeth, several miles to the southwest, which was established in 1818.
Today Ashland City encompasses 9.6 square miles and, according to the 2008 US Census, has a population of 4,050. Our city is located 15 miles west of Nashville, Music City USA, and 20 miles east of Clarksville, home of Fort Campbell’s 101st Airborne Division. Expansion of State Highway 12 and nearby Interstate 40 provides more accessibility than ever.
Ashland City is home to many manufacturers and businesses including the largest manufacturer of water heaters - A.O. Smith and one of the most renowned boat builders - Triton Boats.
Ashland City has an award winning Parks and Recreation Program. The Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail is a member of the National Rails to Trails Conservancy and was awarded Tennessee’s first Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award for excellence in conservation.
Multiple housing options are available. Three new residential developments include The Braxton Condominiums at Harpeth Shoals Marina, Hidden Lake Resort, and Maple Hills Homes. A new planned unit development that includes multi family, single family and commercial properties at Marrowbone Heights has been approved and will soon be underway. From apartment living to upscale custom homes, Ashland City offers something for everyone.
Our community recognizes future growth as a pathway to a vibrant, enduring community. “Into the future with the heart and soul of a small town.” is our vision for the future. It discovers and protects our assets so that they can adapt to change while enhancing the attributes that are valued most. With Phase 1 now complete, work is underway to locate funding resources for Phase 2.
